The pane!
by Krister on Feb.12, 2012, under Programming, Work
The title is actually a play with words, pain / pane, you will soon understand why it’s funny.
I find it to be a PAIN to work with the project PANE (there it is) in Unity, especially if the project consists of hundreds of files, it gets real messy real fast. It is just too much a PAIN (there it is again) to look around for the file you currently need, even with the filtering.
So I made a quick tool just letting you create quick links to the files you need, the links work just as it does in the project window, if you click them the project window will go to it and mark it for you, if you double click it, it will react as if you had double clicked them in the project window.
The links which is savable / loadable is per scene so it uses different lists for different scenes.
The Sickness

Hear ye hear ye, long time and no see, but this passed weekend I was actually sick, the common cold got to me. This gave me the opportunity for the most awesomnest weekend in a long time.
Friday night I started to feel the evil spread in me in what was otherwise a good night, I tried both coffee and wine, red to be exact, and I enjoyed it all, not that I will ever become an avid drinker but my repertoire has expanded, my pallet has matured, evolved. Well after the pleasant evening I came home, scolded my self in the shower and went to bed, woke up with evil in my face.
It was not a severe case of the sniffles but I took any excuse I could to look myself in from society, after a not so quick visit to the store of course, never before have I pushed so much candy and soft drinks into my face at the same time.
The Saturday was mostly spent with the viewing of quality movies, where two stood out, the best of those two is in fact 50/50, it’s a drama comedy about a guy finding out he has cancer how he deals with it and so on.
The other movie was The Wackness, about this lonely drug dealing kid spending his summer last summer before collage. I recognize the lead guy from somewhere, somewhere good I think but I can’t for the life of me figure out where. Oop, just found out, Mean Creek, check that one out as well
Well, Sunday finally came, this time it was all about the nerdness, started out with some Riff Trax of, hm, some movie, let’s see it was… funny as hell anyways. Rifftrax are of for those who don’t know something like MST3K but voice only, including Mike Nelson.
The next movie was Nemesis from 1992, a sucky as hell movie with cyborgs.
Next time I get sick I’ll keep to the sure things like Cyborg with Van Damme.
There were more movies but I don’t remember, still trying to come back from my sugar trip. Well until next time I’ll just leave you with the following words, Diseases, get them, it’s good for you!
The end and the start

Once again I’ve celebrated Christmas, after a few days in Västerås and an awesome nerd marathon of movies and whatnot’s I arrived at Stockholm, staying at my younger brother and his fiancee, where we also spent the actual Christmas activities.
It was pretty much the same as usual of course, Cias family was there as well, so we were a bit more crammed than usual, the upside was of course meeting my nieces, especially the latest one.
You can see more images of that event here.
New years eve was celebrated as well, with Ias excellent cooking before partaking in sophisticated social drinking over at the boss.
Should I summarize the old year, no not really, it has over all been a good year, started working out a bit, tried dating a bit, but the new year, 2012 folks will be bigger and greater. I’m starting out with not drinking any carbonated drinks for a month, and I might go see the new Sherlock Holmes movie, who knows.

I noticed nothing has happened at all in my lufe (or life as you guys probably call it) since the 17th of September according to this here site. Well that’s not entirely true.
Work as always keeps on keeping on, it’s all fine and dandy, I like the new students at school and Aethereus is coming along nicely as well.
I’ve been to GameX a consumer trade fair in its second year running, looking exactly the same as it did last year, haven’t grown a bit, despite being a bit boring it’s all good, nice to leave the island for a bit at least.
I’ve also changed gym, I used to go to Form Visby which they shut down as the wanted to move everything to another location, to far away for me wanting to go there. Now I go to Friskis & Svettis [En] instead,t he gym part is nices but their spinning sessions can never compare to those at Form Visby, now at Form Visborg.
Most importantly though is the fact that Eligh together with AmpLive just released a new album Therapy at 3, Eligh is as usual awesome.
I also discovered a for me, brand new artist called G-Eazy, also awesome, according to me at least, and that’s saying something.

As I sit here bored as a tree stump, reflecting over the passed week as I always do at 19:51 every 17th of September while enjoying a Peppermint chewing gum, I can only come to the conclusion that the soon to be over week has bee a strange one. I think it is safe to say that I had some record breaking feeling of being tired a few days ago, could almost not keep my eyes closed, or wait, I mean open, because that is what they are usually like when you’re awake.
We have had two Couch surfers here all week, John and Kara, one from Texas, USA and the other from Canada which has been nice, at the same time work has been going good, the students seem to get along quite nicely, work at Three Gates is coming along nicely as well as I’m currently implementing feature X in Aethereus. Which by the way released an in game trailer last week.
So except from work I’ve also been at the Jazz club [Sv] for the first time, an biweekly event organized by Roxy kulturförening [Sv], I went with Håkan and Marcus, we got a seat right at the scene to enjoy the music of Wakenius x 2, even though they did not come with a trumpet / saxophone player. Well the food was good but sitting next to the stage killed my ears, Marcus ears as well because he left quite quickly while me and Håkan just change tables after dinner.
Jumping quickly ahead we come to the events of today, a Saturday, a day in which me and father (making weird psycho sounds) finished molding the floor at the summer house, luckily there was just a small bit left so it didn’t take forever.

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, it is as you are all well aware of a competitor to the evil Apple company and their iPad 2.
The Galaxy tab is of course running Android Honeycomb and it’s all good but there are some major annoyances, the use proprietary plugs, no mini USB or nothing, the have there own bullshit, nor is there a SD card slot or something like that, which wouldn’t be a big problem if you could just plug it in to the computer as a hard-drive, but no, you have to use their software called Samsung Crap or something, which wouldn’t install, it just tried and tried again on some weird driver.
So yeah, at first I was like all
But then I was like.
Well, over all it is a great machine, but it is so weird the choices they’ve made, I mean it is 2011 after all.
Freedom to all!
More surfers dude.

We have had our second (first) experience with Couchsurfers, this time New Zealand based American Kolt MacUltimateMan, a spearfishing traveler going round the world, he visited us and our island with Norway based Swede Sara. I did not spend a lot of day time with them but they were awesome and nice all around with plenty of interesting travel stories to share.
Below is some of the photos of our last dinner together with Setareh, another couch they visited, to see Ulfs photos you can click here or here, just ignore the third picture of me, I had just gotten my hair cut and the hair dresser could not get it to be in any other fashion then the what ever it’s called with the split in the middle, I of course could do it, but not before Ulf shoved a camera in my face.
On another note I got the camera back from Håkan that he borrowed in Germany, mostly contains some photos of Ulf in this bar called Shamrock, were we drank ourselves through their inventory and Ulf decided to buy a travel pussy, that he broke I might add, but not in a sexual way of course.

I recently changed gyms from Visby Gym [Sv] which is a smaller cheaper gym. I changed to Form Visby [Sv], a bit on the expensive side but you get access to two gyms, one that is really close to where I live, it also have a few more machines, free access to a few swimming pools around the island, but the main reason for the change was they have group exercise thingies in which I’m only interested in trying spinning.
Spinning is as I understand it riding an exercise bike in a group while someone is screaming at you, I tried it the first time today and it was quite effective and really really hard, one hour of sweating like I never sweated before, but I’m hoping this will be an effective replacement when the snow comes and I can’t run outside without risking my hipbone anymore.
Until next time.
Back from Germany

The trip from Visby via Stockholm, Arlanda, Berlin and then finally Cologne went quite well though a bit tiresome starting at three in the morning with that boring old ferry over to the mainland, bus from Nynäshamn to Stockholm where we continued by some means of transportation, lets say it was by bus. It was only me and Ulf in the beginning, in the wolfpack, but at Arlanda we picked up a stray, Mr Lipponen to be exact, now we where three in our pack. At first it was just me, a lone wolf, then came Ulf and we became a pack of two where there used to be only one, and then with Lippo as he is called we became a pack of three where there used to be only one. Well enough of the Tom Folery, after the addition to the wolfpack we flew to Berlin where we changed planes and continued our journey to Cologne.
After dropping off our luggage at Hostel Köln (which was an awesome hostel, great service and great rooms) we went to the Köln messe to setup our booth, we quickly found out that a table had been ruined during transport and another table had been left at home, after a few harsh words we continued for a bit longer as we could rent tables.
When we came back the next morning we had some more fun news, our two TVs had been stolen, more harsh words roared the halls as the wolfpack of three fisted the air. Well the security guy was very helpful and filed a police report for us, we did what we could and we could also rent TVs from the messe (Hm I’m starting to suspect things).
Well the students arrived and we did the best of the situation, the rest of GDC days were filled with lectures and mandatory parties, unfortunately I lend my party camera to The Håwk seen here where he pulls it from my cold dead hands.
Well, the official GDC parties weren’t the only fun we had, even though I didn’t go to the Grillstube this time we did find a Thai restaurant which was beyond awesome (I think it is THAI FOOD, Neustadt-Nord, Cologne, but I’m not sure, it is close to Neumarkt though and Shamrock), and after that divine visit (one of many during the week) we went to a small Irish Pub called Shamrock pub where we drank our way through their assorted inventory, I can’t still to this day figure out if they were annoyed with us or happy to serve us.
After the Game Developers Conference it was time for the consumer part called GamesCom, even though we did get in during the press day me and Ulf could not stand the lines, minute after minute just standing there, we did try to enter the Prototype 2 booth but gave up, and that was the last line I stood in, so no free stuff, no T-Shirts for Dan [Sv]. The rest of the time we went about a bit, did get some tourism done, but mainly I did get some photos from the ThreeGates booth and Aethereus which seemed to go very well, but I will here more on that the next meeting I suppose.
The rest of the photos are available here.

After having the common cold for nearly two weeks that just now starts to give in it is time for Germany, GDC Europe and Gamescom once more. This is my third time and once again I’m going for the schools account, but ThreeGates will be there as well to show of a demo of our game Aethereus which is awesome in every sense of the word.
This time we will fly there instead of driving our way through Denmark, and all in all in at somewhat smaller capacity from former years.
As usual I hope to be able to do some tourism, but I strongly suspects that won’t happen, as usual.
Well until next time you can look at some pictures.
